- About Xining –

Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province, is situated on the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau at an average elevation of 2,275 meters, serving as a key urban center in northwestern China. As a historic hub along the ancient Silk Road and Tang-Tibet Trade Route, the city boasts a unique multicultural blend of Han, Tibetan, Hui, Mongolian, and other ethnic traditions. Its cool climate—with summer temperatures averaging around 17°C—earns it the title “China’s Summer Capital.”

A gateway to Tibet and Xinjiang, Xining offers breathtaking natural and cultural attractions. The iconic Ta’er Monastery, one of Tibetan Buddhism’s six great Gelug school temples, lies nearby, while scenic wonders like Qinghai Lake and the Chaka Salt Lake captivate visitors. Local delicacies such as hand-grabbed mutton, yogurt, and sweet fermented barley wine reflect the region’s rich flavors. Today, Xining thrives as a transportation and commercial hub on the plateau, harmonizing ancient heritage with modern growth.
